The business model changes when customers buy a recognizable result instead of only paying for software their team still has to operate. We explore outcome-based AI pricing through Intercom’s Fin, Sierra and Zendesk. Examples include an AI phone agent that can discuss a medical bill and take payment through Stripe, agents that investigate support requests, and systems that evaluate whether an issue was actually resolved. Delivering the work requires more than a convincing answer. The agent needs access to business systems, accurate information and a way to carry the task through to completion. The supplier also has to manage the cost of reasoning, retries and follow-up. Subscriptions and usage pricing aren’t disappearing. Completed work is becoming another thing an AI business can sell.
